So the big race day has come and gone. It was a fantastic event with lots of creative designs, enthusiastic fans and the weather was in our favor that day.
The day started off with a pancake breakfast at 8 am. The Auburn Jeep Club did a great job flipping flapjacks, grillin' sausage and making eggs perfect to order. It was a wonderful turn out for being so early on a Sunday morning. The contribution for breakfast from this club made a huge difference in what we were able to give back to Seniors First and the Active 20/30. We can't thank you enough Auburn Jeep Club for cooking and ladies from the Assistance League for all your help.
The rest of the day went so well. There were a total of 15 car entries for the derby. We had everything from a pink flamingo, to a miners cart, to a huge western, Lion driving two horses and a covered wagon. They were all a sight to be seen. A people's choice award was given to the funk box that received the majority vote. The vote was determined with raffle tickets that were purchased and dropped in the bag of the funk box you liked the most. A big congrats to the PCCA (Placer County Contractors Association) for winning with their huge house on wheels, it even came equipped with a swimming pool. It was super funky, well built and impressive.
The race down the hill was so much fun to watch. Everyone made it down the hill safely. There were a few close calls, but everyone was fine and had tons of fun. We had the CHP there with their radar gun clocking each driver. The fastest speed was about 18 mph in an old, hollowed out wine barrel. The driver flew down the hill and crashed into the hay lined finish area. It was pretty sweet.
Everyone did such a great job in making the 2010 Auburn Funk Box Derby happen. It was a success and we raised about $2500 to donate to Seniors First and the Active 20/30 club. We are excited to say that we can't wait till next year. Hope to see you out there!
