What A Success!

Good Day fellow Funk Box Derby fans!

So the big race day has come and gone. It was a fantastic event with lots of creative designs, enthusiastic fans and the weather was in our favor that day.

The day started off with a pancake breakfast at 8 am. The Auburn Jeep Club did a great job flipping flapjacks, grillin' sausage and making eggs perfect to order. It was a wonderful turn out for being so early on a Sunday morning. The contribution for breakfast from this club made a huge difference in what we were able to give back to Seniors First and the Active 20/30. We can't thank you enough Auburn Jeep Club for cooking and ladies from the Assistance League for all your help.

The rest of the day went so well. There were a total of 15 car entries for the derby. We had everything from a pink flamingo, to a miners cart, to a huge western, Lion driving two horses and a covered wagon. They were all a sight to be seen. A people's choice award was given to the funk box that received the majority vote. The vote was determined with raffle tickets that were purchased and dropped in the bag of the funk box you liked the most. A big congrats to the PCCA (Placer County Contractors Association) for winning with their huge house on wheels, it even came equipped with a swimming pool. It was super funky, well built and impressive.

The race down the hill was so much fun to watch. Everyone made it down the hill safely. There were a few close calls, but everyone was fine and had tons of fun. We had the CHP there with their radar gun clocking each driver. The fastest speed was about 18 mph in an old, hollowed out wine barrel. The driver flew down the hill and crashed into the hay lined finish area. It was pretty sweet.

Everyone did such a great job in making the 2010 Auburn Funk Box Derby happen. It was a success and we raised about $2500 to donate to Seniors First and the Active 20/30 club. We are excited to say that we can't wait till next year. Hope to see you out there!

Learn to Build Weekend

It was a great weekend for the Derby.

We were at Cruise Nite in Auburn and things were crackin'! We had a few more folks signing up. We will limit entries to 50, but still have a ways to go. Don't procrastinate if you plan on entering. Spots are going and will be gone.

We had our first "help you build" on Sunday the 11th with David Brown. He did a wonderful job helping people with their frames and showing how to get funky for the hill. The turn out was successful. There was lot of great information, ideas and participation.

We added David Potter Photography for all derby related happenings. We will have a history of funky pics for all-take a look at the Funk Box Derby Slideshow by David Potter Photography (www.davidhowlandpotter.com)'

PLUS-PLUS-PLUS look at http://www.funkboxderby.com/ We have footage from past events, this is good. Thank You melissa at ACTV and Cathy Morgan from LACODA TECHNOLOGIES (Cathy built our website)

We do need a few folks who would like to help us coordinate new entrants and sponsors. We need some funky marketing muscle.

Please let me know if you would like to help.

Fourth of July Weekend

Fourth of July weekend was a big one for the Funk Box Derby. There were lots of smile, laughs, crashes and fun!

If you had the opportunity to make it to Colfax, CA, on the 3rd, you were able to witness an exciting Funk Box race. The Scouts made some great runs down Church St. We had about 9 entries and they all had a blast. The kids were equipped with safety gear and mile wide grins. The funk boxes went fast! Lots of excitement ensued with crashing cars along the way... no worries though, everyone was having fun with a few bruises to show off.

The next day in Auburn, the kids from Colfax joined us for the Fourth of July parade into the Auburn fairgrounds. It was a grand event. The streets were saturated with people watching the parade and waiting to see the fireworks. People loved seeing all the kids in their funk box cars. It really made an impression. Plus, the fireworks were kick butt this year. Way to go Auburn!

This is a great precursor for the Auburn September 19, 2010 Funk Box Derby down Lincoln Way in Downtown Auburn. We can have up to 50 cars and are still anxious to see who signs up and sponsors for the race (there is no age limit... just gotta be a kid at heart). This is going to be awesome people. Take the time to build and donate. Be apart of Auburn history!
